Description: 19th century carved polychromatic giltwood panel featuring the flaming scared heart of Jesus pierced by an arrow and surrounded by ornate scrolling decoration. Fretwork detailing all carved from a single piece of wood, incredible craftsmanship which is a real joy to behold. I think carved from oak. Likely to be Portuguese as I acquired it over there, and have seen other carved sacred heart examples attributed to the country. In good overall condition with wear to gilt and paint, all of the wood is intact with no chips - just some splitting in sections.
