This card was once consigned to Heritage Auctions but went unsold, but they appraised it at $50,000 but the bids did not reach that reserve. Offered is the Gem Mint card of basketball's GOAT: Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan cards have always been hot. In more recent times, they've gotten hotter. In January 2021, a record $738,000 was paid for each of two 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan PSA Gem Mint 10 cards, his mainstream rookie card. The confinement of the pandemic spurred interest in the hobby, and The Last Dance documentary seemed to fan the Jordan flames even more. In addition, Jordan's spectacular playing made interest in basketball more international, and the international interest in basketball cards grew concurrently. The Last Dance showed an inside look at Jordan's fierce will to win, but he has equated his playing style to love. "What is love? It's playing every game as if it's your last." Jordan's love was of the tough love variety, and it paid off. Jordan's Chicago Bulls teams within eight years accomplished the amazing "DoubleThree-Peat", two sets of three consecutive NBA championships. Jordan won a record ten scoring championships and took five MVPs and six Finals MVPs. He was an All-Star 14 times, and he made the NBA All-Defensive Team nine times.The 1997 SPx set was issued in a single series of 50 cards. Various combinations of lithographic, holographic, and Holoview images are used on the perimeter die-cut cards. The cards were released after the 1996-97 play-offs and include statistics from the first half of the campaign.
