Description: 1998 Image Curse of the Spawn #22. First appearance of HATCHET, Zombie spawn. There are 2 Newsstand Variants. This is the RARER NO STICKER VARIANT. The UPC sticker which was added after printing will get a CGC GREEN QUALIFIED LABEL. Low census population of only 2 in graded 9.6 with a total of 19 across all grades. Unknown how many of those are newsstand. Newsstand variants are generally estimated to be 1:100 compared to direct editions. Actual item in pictures for sale. Late 90’s Spawn newsstand editions were literally printed on newspaper grade thin paper. The paper used on the covers were thinner compared to the direct editions making them so much easier to damage. Newsstand variants were not sold to collectors inside comic book retail stores. They were found at actual newsstands, often displayed in spinner racks inside liquor stores, grocery stores etc and were typically printed on lower quality paper and were never bagged and boarded and often abused. Very few newsstand variants survived making them extremely SCARCE in high grade and many unsold newsstand copies were either returned to the publisher or destroyed.
