Description: 1987 300D Turbo, last of the pre-merger, sought after W-124s. I had been driving MB diesels for 50 years, from the 180D, 190Db, .... to 300D Turbo 190D, 300SD, E250 bluetec, etc. In those days you would not want to drive in the fast lane, until the early 80's. This year is the fastest MB diesel built for that era, before Computer Injection (CDI.) But electronics and computers fail without warning. Software can be subject to recalls (jus like VWs.) Mechanical fuel injection is die-hard reliable, (like Swiss mechanical watches.) You can go cross-country without fear of being stranded. If you know and want this, '87 300 Turbo Diesel is the popular model to own. It's getting harder to find with a cult-following. No smog is required. Note: You may have read the Bluetec diesels had a law suit on its bogus software for emission control, just like the VW. Mercedes had decided to discontinue its production. Running exhaust gas through a regeneration tank with blue liquid seems to work for awhile. One at a time, all the Bluetec out there would not meet emission inspections. (My '06 E320 quit at 214k miles. Oil leaks ruined the belt, before bearings froze. ) This had the same elderly owners as primary drivers for 2 decades with under 280k miles. (Even my 190D had over 400k miles.) Complete maintenance records from Silver Star in Carmichael. Engine, as you would expect, is original. Automatic transmission was hand-rebuilt by John R. himself 60k miles ago. Suspension was completely redone in 2014, no expense spared. Interior is original and decent. New AC compressor. Five new tires. Not perfect. (Some clear-coat on the hood is peeling. Sunroof needs a new cable.) Extra alloy wheel and truck full of parts. For the modest price of a 20-year old car, near the end of its useful life, you can invest in a historical survivor that has lasted longer than some people have. $5,900 is a fair price.
