Description: Pairpoint Glass Cup Plate"New Bedford" This is a beautiful Pairpoint Glass hand pressed lead crystal cup plate. This cup plate is amber and the design features the seal of the town of New Bedford Massachusetts. It is an ocean scene with boats and lighthouse. This plate came out in 1979. It also comes with the original informational brochure. Cup plates are small decorative art glass coaster size collectible plates. They were originally used in the early 1800's when fashion decreed tea cups without handles. Hot tea was poured into saucers to cool, while the cup was placed on a small cup plate to prevent damage to fine linens or table tops. Today cup plates may be used to hold the tea bag, butter pats or mints at the dinner table. They look so pretty displayed on a windowsill with the light shining through and they make great gifts. Measurements: 3.5" in diameter This is in Excellent used, vintage condition, see pictures. Cup plates will be shipped in vintage gift boxes which will be packed inside a mailing box for safe travels.
