Stevens & Co. plants in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. There were years of battle by the union to gain a contract for its members. The textile industry was well known for brutal working conditions and a company regarded as the nation's worst labor law violator. The union called for a boycott of J.P. Stevens textile products. These union organizing efforts were the subject the 1979 movie "Norma Rae," which was based on the organizing struggle at J.P. Stevens and the experience of TWUA member Crystal Lee Sutton. Sally Field won an Oscar as best actress for her performance in the film. In the movie, many of the names are changed — for example, Stevens becomes "O.P. Henley & Co." — to protect the moviemakers from legal liability.SHIPPING TO DESTINATIONS WITHIN THE UNITED STATES IS THROUGH USPS GROUND ADVANDAGE.
