Description: Note: Please study the images carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us. A scanner may interpret colors and contrast differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person. This vintage photograph is offered for sale as a collectible item and conveys no transfer of copyright. 1966 Press Photo Students at U.C. Santa Barbara build a propeller-less submarine This is an original press photo. Students at the University of California at Santa Barbara have built a propeller-less submarine, 10 feet long and 18 inches in diameter. It's called EMS-1 (electromagnetic submarine) and moves through use of electromagnetic forces generated by a system of batteries, electrodes and a coil. The electrical and magnetic forces intersect in the water around the vessel and thrust is created, pushing the water backward. Preparing the sub for a test run are (left to right) David Hoppe and Douglas Pirie, students, and assistant professor Charles Devlin. Devlin says the EMS-1 could eventually revolutionize shipping. Submarines Photo measures 7 x 9.25 inches. Photo is dated 09-04-1966. PHOTO FRONT PHOTO BACK Historic Images Part Number: hcw10631 Sell Smarter with Kyozou.Inventory and Ecommerce Management
