He drives about 20,000 miles a year, carrying perhaps the most precious cargo in the world. He drives in storms and blizzards and negotiates muddy roads after spring rainstorms. He's Ray Seiler, of Independence, a school bus driver for the Arcadia School District. For Seiler this is a part time job. He is a full time counselor for the Mississippi River Human Resources Center in Independence. Each day starts at 5am when he picks up his bus at the school. He pciks up his first student at 7:15 and then collects 27 more before dropping them off at two Arcadia schools. The kids visit, play games and almost never misbehave. For the students, the school bus is as much as the classroom. The driver on the bus is like the teacher in the classroom- he is the boss.Photo measures 8 x 10inches. Photo is dated 08-16-1965.
