Description: This interesting item was manufactured by J. L. Clark Mfg. Co. for Baker's Chocolate in 1959. This means the company that made Wheaties plates in 1953 and 1954 was now making plates for a brand owned by the company that invented Post cereal! This is a very well made steel miniature scale reproduction of a license plate that was included in the 1 and 2 pound tins of instant chocolate drink mix. The plates were also available in sets of 5 through the company for 25c a set. An interesting fact about this set - since this set was first distributed in the Spring of 1959, Hawaii had not become a state yet, so the set included "all" 49 states and D.C. for a set of 50 plates. Advertising for these plates specified "all 49 states" and looks odd to people today, used to the fact that there are now 50 states. I have collected mini license plate items since the mid-1970s, and have a collection numbering well over 3,000 items. I am slowly getting into turning this into a business to feed my habit. I am not new to eBay; I have been buying and selling on this website since 1996 - this is a new I.D., not a new seller. My prime motivation here is to offer collectors a safe-haven store with realistic pricing and a bit of good education in down-home honest dealing. It might also help these other sellers with no knowledge in the subject to more realistically price their items.
