Description: Marius Russo New York Yankees' pitcher 1939-43, 46. He twice won fourteen games. Won game four, WS of 1943. Teammate of Joe DiMaggio. Background: I won a lot that originated from the Yankees' vaults in a Mastro Auction around 1997. This was a choice item in the lot, and almost my last. He's writing to a Yankees' top executive, and accepting an invitation to the Old Timers' Game. It was especially festive in 1955. The seven newly elected members of the HOF appeared in the special ceremonies (incl. Hartnett, Lyons, Schalk, Vance.) It was extra special because one of the seven inductees was the Yankees' Joe DiMaggio. (Also, to a lesser extent, six-year Yankee Home Run Baker.) It's written on one side of an 8" x 10" tannish paper. Mint writing and signature in a brownish fountain pen. Ex/Mt sheet, excluding two faint mailing folds. Both sides are completely clean. No blemishes on either side. Note: The Yankees' secretary put a red check mark on the name, which was common practice. Transcript: "June 1, 1955 / Mr Bob Fishel / 745 Fifth Ave. / New York, N.Y. / Dear Mr. Fishel, Am in receipt of Mr. Weiss's invitation to participate in the July 30th Old Timers celebration. It is with the utmost pleasure that I accept your kind offer. I'll be present at whatever time you choose. A request though -- the same I put to "Red" Patterson before. Is it possible to set aside four tickets for my wife, two kids and an escort? I'll be waiting to hear from you. Thanks again for inviting me. Yours, Marius Russo." Winning bidder needs to add $3.95 for postage and tracking. Returns accepted. Postage cost for each additional winning is only 25 cents (wait for the combined invoice, if needed). Guaranteed. I also have listed letters by Roger Craig, Charles Deal, Carl Erskine, Frank Thomas. More details are listed below. *I've been a collector since 1970. I learned about collecting autographs through columns in old trade magazines, such as The Trader Speaks and Newsreel. I've been selling autographed items on eBay for over fifteen years. Unless otherwise noted, each was personally obtained for my own collection or inventory. This was mostly via the mail route from 1973-95.*14-year-old exhibitor at the third and last annual Brea Show in 1971. (This SoCal get-together was a forerunner of the Nat'l Sports Collectors Con.) Member of the Universal Autograph Collectors Club (UACC) and Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). Contributor to SABR's ongoing Baseball Biography Project. Authored the 259-page book Baseball's Golden Half-Century 1910-1959 (published in 2007). Great nephew and sole researcher of Paul Martin, who illustrated twenty magazine covers for Collier's, played against B.Tilden and in three US Opens. I've been a subscriber and occasional advertiser to the major hobby publications, since the early 1970s. My full-page ads have appeared in Autograph Collector (later called Autograph Magazine). This includes the following older issues: Jun '90 p 37; Sept '90 p 25; Jan '91 p 35; Aug '91 p 19; Apr '93 p 7; Oct '94 p 32; Oct '96 p 87 etc. I was featured in Sports Collectors Digest in June 2022.*Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance! There's no need to be unhappy with a signed item. Rather, please return it insured and in the same condition received, for a full refund (less postage cost). I've never sold copies or pre-prints, only originals! Everything listed is guaranteed to pass JSA, PSA/DNA or R.Simon Sports without time restraints. But try presenting some verification of its purchase, like a copy of my listing or receipt. All items are sent out parcel post in a thick 6x9" (or larger) brown envelope, regardless of its value. Also with a tracking number. Insurance is usually standard on anything priced at over $99. Handling time is within ONE day of receiving payment (excluding Sundays and Holidays). However, I have NO control if the postal service is slow in its delivery. Parcels are often NOT scanned into the system locally (re. tracking). They occasionally are not even moved out of the local Central Processing Center for two or three days. My itemized sales receipt, will be sent out upon request (or one can make a copy of this listing).
