The development of a "Universal Landing Gear," permitting military and commercial airplanes to utilize land, water, ice, snow and heavy mud in addition to airport runways for landing and take-off operations, was disclosed on July 1st by the U.S. Armed Services. The new gear is a simple device consisting basically of a conventional aircraft wheel landing gear to which a ski-like Navy experiments during the last 5 years with water skis for plannes.
