The map opens to 24" x 33½" and has great detail on old highway alignments and road surfaces, with cartography by the General Drafting Company. There are inset plans of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, as well as a shaded relief map of the state. This map was issued by the Esso Standard Oil Company and is dated 1954 in the legend. The code number in the lower margin is 454W. In the illustration on the front cover a uniformed Esso gas station attendant shows a road map to a traveling family.
