Description: 1953 Topps #111 Hank Sauer Chicago Cubs mid-level EX-MT B53#111A1 This is a mid-level 1953 Hank Sauer card with nice corners, straight edges and nicely centered. Nice corners Nicely centered Clean back Vintage ‘53 Sauer signed with the Yankees in ‘37 but played his rookie year with the Cincinnati ball club in ‘45. He spent two years following his rookie year in the minors and in ‘48 he was back in the majors and established himself a home run threat, smashing 35 home runs for the year. His career reached its peak in ‘52 when he he led the league in homers (37) and RBIs (121) and was awarded MVP honors for the year. Sauer spent 15 years in the majors, and after his production dropped from its heights he was sent to St. Louis for a year and finished his playing days in San Francisco in ‘59. But in ‘57, while the Giants were still in New York, Sauer played in 127 games and hit 26 home runs and 76 RBIs, his last great power display in a major league uniform, retiring from baseball in 1959.
