Description: Italian Line: What do you do with thousands of brochures promoting sister ships after one of them has sunk? In the case of the Italian Line in August 1956, you send them back to the printers to have all mention of the ANDREA DORIA over-printed in silver. This CRISTOFORO COLOMBO fold-out interiors brochure dated 12-54 is one of the most unusual in all of linerdom. Throughout are large and small stripes of silver foil blocking out references to the DORIA. Replacement text is printed on top of the silver. The changes begin on the cover where a vertical block of silver with "CRISTOFORO COLOMBO" covers up where both ship names were printed. The fleet list is also over-stamped to reflect the shrunken number. Inside, many of the text blocks are over-stamped as are many of the photo references. Half the photos here are actually of the DORIA. The most obvious change is the semi-circle of silver stamped over the life ring in the big color photo of the DORIA's Cabin Class pool. In September 1956 the Italian Line had the brochures reprinted, removing off references to the lost liner, making this brochure rare. Good condition with light wear.
