Description: 1950 – SEEDS OF CONTEMPLATION By Thomas Merton Vintage HB Book & DJ spiritual 1950 – SEEDS OF CONTEMPLATION By Thomas Merton Vintage Hardback Book, with its original Dust Jacket (unclipped). It is also with top-edge red pages and an illustrated title page. Published in 1950 by Hollis & Carter, London and printed in Great Britain by Jarrold And Sons Ltd., Norwich. It is a revised edition, and the book was first published just a year earlier, in 1949. Thomas Merton (1915–1968) was an American Trappist monk, writer, theologian, mystic, and poet. He is best known for his influential writings on spirituality, social justice, and peace.Seeds of Contemplation is a profound work by Thomas Merton. In this book, Merton explores the nature of contemplation, spiritual growth, and the quest for inner peace. The book is written in a contemplative and reflective style, with poetic language that invites deep thought. The dust jacket is intact and unclipped. It is still showing the original price on the inner flap. There is some wear to the jacket, including rips and creases at the edges, small marks, and a little discolouration. The jacket has protected the cover well, which is in a very good condition for over 70 years old. The red cloth bound boards and spine are robust and intact, with just light wear, including light rubbing at the edges, and just very small marks. Please see the photograph provided for further reference. There is gilt lettering on the spine. Inside this book the pages are very lightly tanned. They are in an overall uncreased, clean and neat state for their age, with only the very occasional very small marks. There are no rips to the pages. On the front flyleaf there is a little pen present, but there are no further pen or pencil marks written in this book. Most of the pages are tightly bound, with just a light crack in the gutter between a few pages. However, all the pages are secure. The top section of the front free endpaper (facing the front pastedown) has been cut away (see photo), but this was probably blank. There are no loose or missing pages and so all 198 pages are present and accounted for. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 17 cm by 10.8 cm and 2.2 cm wide. It weighs approximately 250 grams. Thank you for looking.
