Description: 1944 Vintage Press Photo by ASSOCIATED PRESS.The first glider to land in France was piloted by Lt. Col. Mike Murphy, ex-stunt flier. Lt. Col. Michael "Mike" C. Murphy is a pre-World War II stunt pilot who later directed the AAF glider pilot training program. He developed new tow techniques, assisted in the planning for the D-Day invasion of France and led the gliders into Normandy. He received the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in the crash of the glider during the Normandy Invasion. Photo is Dated: June 8, 1944. THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC PHOTO, NOT A COPY OR SCANS. Photo Measures Approximately: 3.5 x 6 Inches. THERE ARE FEW MINOR CREASE MARKINGS.
