A “Biglietto di Stato a Corso Legale" or Legal Tender State Note. It is dated November 23, 1944 during World War II. By November of 1944 Italy had been liberated by the Allies to the “Gothic Line” north of Pisa and Florence and allied military operations were beginning to end. "Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (General Issues 1368-1960) by Albert Pick. #29b. Face: Brown on pink underprint. • “Italia” at left. Back: Authorized 20 May 1935 • 23 NOVEMBRE 1944 • Green. The Note: A still crisp, probably never used specimen. It has some gentle bends and some light soiling but no creases, and no tears or holes.
