Description: This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. Throughout the Thirties, Goudey Gum of Boston and Gum Inc. of Philadelphia competed for control of the bubble gum (and gum card) market. Goudey dominated first, with its sets of Indian cards and various baseball issues, but by the late Thirties, Gum Inc. (which became Bowman Gum after World War Two) won the war. In 1938, Gum Inc. issued one of the most iconic sets of the pre-war era, "Horrors of War," a graphic 288-card set showing war in all of its gore. With the situation in Europe and Asia heating up, kids ate it all up. The set remains one of the most avidly collected sets of its day, and remains tremendously popular with collectors. This is card #179, "Wrecked Highway Brings Disaster to Foe," from the tough semi-high series. It's in decent shape with corner wear and a slight crease (see scans for condition), not bad for a card that's over eighty years old. This would be a terrific addition to any collection! Shipping is $4.00 for First Class Mail, and postage will be combined for multiple winnings. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
