Description: 1937 Palestine 10 Mils • British Mandate Israel Coin. The coin was found near the Turkish railway bridge over Nahal Nitzana (Wadi al Auja). The bridge was built by the Turks in May 1916 as part of the Nahal Soreq to Sinai railway project, which was built to support Turkey's efforts to conquer the Suez Canal. This project began in the summer of 1915 and continued until the summer of 1916, when the road reached the railway station at Uja al-Hafir, where a large military base was located. After the completion of the paving, the Turks began to transfer equipment and troops towards Sinai. Following defeat in the battle and the British advance towards Gaza, the Turks abandoned their plan to occupy the Suez Canal and moved to fortify the Gaza Line. As a result, the continuation of the construction of the railway in the direction of Sinai was stopped, but the line continued to serve Turkish troops.
