It was a well known, amazing American business magazine, named "Fortune" (with the hope for a good money luck). It was founded by "Time Inc" co-founder Henry Luce in 1929, as "the Ideal Super-Class Magazine".As somebody said, it meant to be a very "distinguished and de-lux" publication. The intention was to "vividly portraying, interpreting and recording the Industrial Civilization"(as Americans wanted to think about their country). Henry Luce once said that he wanted "the new magazine to be as beautiful one as exists in the United States. And if possible, the undisputed most beautiful". At that time most of business publications were not more than numbers or statistics, and were printed in black and white. But the "Fortune" was an oversized 11"×14" magazine with 2 pounds of weights. The publishers used creamy heavy paper. The most important for them was to have a very attractive art on a cover. That cover was printed by a special process. "Fortune" became well-known for its photography. It was featuring the work of Margaret Bourke-White, Ansel Adams, and others. It might be still interesting to some, that Walker Evans served as its photography editor from 1945 to 1965. This magazine was competing with "Forbes" and "Bloomberg Business-week" .
