Description: 1934 news poster: Mary Pickford & Russian actress This is a rare Illustrated Current News poster, dated July 11, 1934. It measures 12.5 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in excellent condition, with a small smudge in its right blank margin, four thumbtack perforations in its left margin, and two old fold lines, as originally issued. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which displayed them for viewing by their customers.) The poster presents a photo promoting one legendary Hollywood star, and one foreign actress who was a protege of Samuel Goldwyn, and who hoped to become a star in Hollywood. The title and caption says: WHEN STAR MEETS STAR Mary Pickford broke a long standing rule recently when she visited and watched the shooting of another stars picture. With friends Miss Pickford drove to Van Nuys, Calif. to watch Anna Sten, blonde young actress from Soviet Russia, at work with Fredric March in We Live Again, a picturization of Tolstoys Resurrection. The above photo shows Miss Pickford and Miss Sten on the set. The poster has the National Recovery Administration eagle symbol in its bottom left corner, with the slogan, NRA Member - U.S. - We Do Our Part. The N.R.A. was a cornerstone of FDRs New Deal policies which helped America recover from the Great Depression. [gsp12307b] _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
