Description: 1930's Montgomery Ward Christmas Catalog Order Form, Blank and Unused Here is an interesting vintage bit of nostalgia from the Montgomery Ward Company, circa late 1930's: A Christmas Catalog Order Blank from the time when almost everything came out of a catalog.... you could even order a kit of parts for a new house to build on your own! 8.5" X 11" green, red and white flyer, most likely an insert in the Ward's catalog or a direct mail piece. Has crease lines and some fading apparent, but good clear text and details. Buying was as simple as thumbing through the catalog and filling in the items wanted, not much different than you'd find online today at most any store. But, delivery was a little more complicated back then since most people in the US were living in rural areas or on farms and there were no Amazon trucks whizzing around the neighborhood; you had to specify which "railroad line" you were on and "how far from town" you were. When the orders arrived, they were simply dropped off at "the station" for an "agent" to handle. Also of interest is the application on the reverse of the form used to apply for credit, or as it was known in those days, "to buy on time." One question asks for your yearly income from "your main crop" and another asks for a copy of your deed and a tax statement. However, you apparently were allowed to set your own payment schedule simply by writing in what you could afford to pay on the dotted line and agreeing to a "10% Carrying Charge." You were then asked to "submit this statement to induce (Wards) to extend credit on this basis." All pretty quaint, but you have to admit that old A. Montgomery Ward seemed to know what he was doing. MONKEY WARDS WAR AND PEACE: LET'S TAKE OVER THE WORLDAND LET'S DROP A BOMB Let's face it: the 30's came in with a whimper and went out (by way of the 40's) with quite a bang. And thus the Boomers were upon the Earth. The number of births in the US nearly doubled during this time and I am one of them who popped out at the very beginning of that Boom. Naturally, this period is my collecting sweet spot and I want almost everything I see from those times!!! It doesn't matter if it is curated in a vintage shop's window or a crammed into a trashcan, I want it: everything leading into the Mid-Century is a Rosebud to me. Interestingly, my relatives laughingly blamed Dr. Spock and his 1942 "Baby Book" for all that came next.... Little did they know that he would end up an active anti-war personality and was actually tried, convicted, and sentenced to federal prison for conspiracy issues!
