Description: This is the original Scribner's hardcover edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's utterly charming first book of short stories. The first printing came out in September 1929, for the Fall book season. This copy, printed in the last weeks of 1920, shows a 1921 date, and is the fourth printing. It's the exact same format as the first edition, with the same dark blue covers as on "This Side of Paradise" that Fitzgerald requested from Max Perkins, so that all his books could appear on a shelf as a uniform edition...this format was followed until Fitzgerald died in 1941. This copy is Good or Good+, with good sound hinges, some tanning to the outside of the book block and to the front and back endpapers, a darkened but readable spine with the gold lettering present, a forward lean to the spine as shown, some minor stains and smudges inside and out including a small margin stain on page 7-8 that doesn't affect the text. There's no writing on the text pages at all. The ffep has a light penciled gift inscription dated Christmas 1921; you can easily erase this if you choose but I think I'll give you the option of keeping it. A really important book at a non-crazy price, exactly 100 years on. And whichever copy you end up buying, do read these irresistible stories! 1921 Fitzgerald FLAPPERS AND PHILOSOPHERS 4th printing Scribner's HB Good+.
