Description: Fully titled, The Work of the American Red Cross During the War : A Statement of Finances and Accomplishments for the Period July 1, 1917 to February 28, 1919. No specific author identified, published by the American Red Cross of Washington, DC in October, 1919. LIMITED AND NUMBERED, AND SIGNED BY HENRY P. DAVISON, CHAIRMAN, WAR COUNCIL OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS. This book was numbered 1747 and it was specifically inscribed to Theodisia Johnson. It is not known how many copies were printed - just that this one is #1747. Found as the leaf adjacent to the Table of Contents in the book was a detached page, which at first made me disappointed that this interesting book would have a detached page. But, as noted on top of the page, "The following letter, although not printed in this report, is inserted here because of the Red Cross Workers will take in this characterization of their work. Certainly nothing is clearer than that the praise for the work the Red Cross did during the war belongs to the thousands of its members and workers who struggled, sacrificed, and achieved - H.P.D." This "inserted page" did not appear to have been a securely inserted page, and as noted, it was found detached with wear along the edges indicating it was sticking out of the book slightly over the decades. Otherwise, the book overall is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. Clean darker olive green cloth boards with a paste-on title on front board and spine, clear and legible, 90 clean and solidly bound pages with many maps, tables, and illustrations heralding the work done by the Red Cross during World War I.
