Description: This auction is for a roof marker lamp from an IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit) LoV class subway car. This item came from the LoV cars of the IRT subway, which were built in many waves by a few different builders (American Car & Foundry & Pullman- between 1915 and 1938. The last of them were retired and scrapped in the 1970s. A few still exist as part of museum collections, including the New York City Transit Museum and the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT.This item is 9 inches wide by 9 inches long and 12 inches tall.The marker lamp has 4 colors. There would have been on the roof by the ends of the car. Routes could be determined by the towerman by utilizing different color combinations.This marker lamp was bead blasted & repainted. It is also electrified. It is meant to be used indoors.
