Description: I have for sale a campaign button with ribbon for John Wingate Weeks. Weeks was a banker & politician from Massachusetts. Weeks was seeking to be the Republican Presidential candidate for the 1916 election, but he was not chosen, and this was one of his campaign items. Weeks was born in 1860 and died in 1926. His political career started as Mayor of Newton, Massachusetts from 1902-03, then U.S. representative 1905-1913, U.S. Senator 1913-1919 and was Secretary of War from 1921-1925. The pinback button is two inches in diameter and looks to be in original condition. His photo is in the center, surrounded by red and white stripes and white stars in blue field. Around the rim it reads THE ARMY AND NAVY FOREVER - THREE CHEERS FOR THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE. The ribbon is blue with gold letters that read FOR - PRESIDENT - JOHN - W. - WEEKS. The ribbon looks to be in original condition but it might be slightly faded. The button & ribbon are 6 1/2 inches long. The Whitehead & Hoag company were the makers, see button reverse.
