Description: 1912 T207 Recruit Little Cigars - Joshua Devore, New York Giants - SGC 5 On the Set - The 1912 Brown Background T207 Baseball Card Set is a classic and one of the most distinctive collections from the pre-war era. As the final set produced by the American Tobacco Company, it is known for its dark, muted color palette, which sharply contrasts with the vibrant, colorful designs of earlier sets like the T206. Each card features the player’s name, team, and league printed in simple black text at the bottom. The card backs include a brief player biography, along with advertisements from one of eight different tobacco brands, including Recruit, Broadleaf, and Cycle. The set, which follows the standard tobacco-card size of 1-1/2” by 2-5/8”, consists of 200 cards featuring a mix of prominent and lesser-known players from the early 20th century. Notable stars in the set include Harry Hooper, Walter Johnson, Tris Speaker, Joe Tinker, and Joe Wood. However, two of the biggest names of the era, Ty Cobb and Christy Mathewson, are absent from the collection. On the Player - Josh Devore (1887–1954) was an MLB outfielder known for his speed and consistent play during the early 20th century. He made his MLB debut in 1908 with the New York Giants, where he played most of his career. Devore was an expert bunter and effective leadoff man for the Giants' National League pennant winning teams in 1911 and 1912, playing alongside legends like Christy Mathewson. Devore also played for the Cincinnati Reds (1913), Philadelphia Phillies (1913–1914), and Boston Braves (1914), the last team providing a World Series championship for Devore. For his career, Devore slashed .277/.361/.359.
