One of the most common modifications made to the new generation semi-automatic pistols is to replace the stock sights with the new tritium style night sights common on most guns today . Night sights are fragile and must be handled carefully. This tool is designed to push out the old sights and push the new ones into place. It also works good at the range for adjusting the sights side to side. To compensate for sloppy tolerances in the dovetail cuts most manufacturers machine their sights a little large and you will need to fit the sights by filing or stoning. With the 1911: You will first need to make sure the set screw is removed if it has one. Spray a little WD40 or similar on the sight to help loosen it up a bit. Place the slide in the sight tool in the center Begin slowly pushing the sight off by turning the handle As the sight pusher begins to have pressure, it will want to cant a bit, at this time place pressure with your fingers to stabilize the slide Continue pushing off the sight while using your fingers to keep the slide from canting To install: Put you sight tool back to the start by unscrewing the handle Put a little oil on the new sight and press it into the slide as much as possible Insert the slide and sight into the sight pusher tool and align the press Slowly begin adding pressure to press the sight on If you meet significant resistance, STOP twisting and remove the sight Some sights are made significantly too big and need to be matched to your gun Take a super fine stone and remove a VERY small amount of material form the sight dovetail Try to install the sight again and repeat these steps if it is still too tight The sight should be a very snug fit, but not extreme Keep in mind this is a plastic tool and needs to be used differently than a metal one Once the sight is on, clean oil from gun and tool You are done, congrats Some stock sights so tightly fitted that you should consider taking it to a gunsmith for proper fit We accept no responsibility for the use OR misuse of this device.
