She was an actress, known for Pretty Ladies (1925), Night Parade (1929) and Gold Diggers of Broadway (1929). Stood stood only 4' 10" and wore a size 1 1/2 shoe. She was a red-haired, diminutive vaudevillian. She came to Broadway in 1911 as a chorine in a show starring Raymond Hitchcock. She achieved national fame as a dancing sprite in the Ziegfeld Follies. For several years she danced in George White's Scandals. Her signature dance was a variation of the 'black bottom', but she was just as adept at tap dancing or doing the Charleston. She is credited with introducing the Black Bottom, which was an African-American dance, to a wider audience with her partner, eccentric dancer Tom Patricola. On screen, usually performed scantily clad specialty numbers. She amassed a fortune of $2 million, but lost most of it during the Great Depression and the remainder on gambling and hotel bills.
