1909 E92 Dockman & Sons Gum - Danny Murphy, Philadelphia Athletics - SGC 4

Description: 1909 E92 Dockman & Sons - Danny Murphy, Philadelphia Athletics - SGC 4 On the Player and Card - Daniel Francis Murphy (1876–1955) was a Major League Baseball second baseman and outfielder who played for the New York Giants (1900–1901), Philadelphia Athletics (1902–1913), and Brooklyn Tip-Tops (1914–1915). In 1910, with Connie MAck guiding the Athletics, Murphy shifted from second base to right field, making way for future Hall of Famer Eddie Collins to join the infield. Murphy became a 3-time World Series champion with the Athletics (1910, 1911, 1913). Over his 16-season career, he posted a .289/.336/.405 slash line and accumulated a notable 35.7 WAR. In 16 World Series games, Murphy hit .305 with 12 RBIs. For more than a decade, he was regarded as one of the top and most powerful hitters in the American League, known for his solid fielding, strong arm, and intelligent base running. As shown in the listing photos, this card is beautiful. SGC has only graded 35 total examples of this Murphy 1909 E92, with only 7 receiving a higher grade. On the Set - The 1909 E92 set is composed of four card subsets, all sharing identical fronts. Labeled as caramel baseball cards by Jefferson Burdick, this series from 1909 is commonly divided into subsets based on their issuer: John H. Dockman & Son, Nadja Caramel, Croft's Cocoa, and Croft's Candy. The Dockman & Sons E92 subset features 40 unnumbered cards, each measuring 1½" by 2¾". The card fronts display commercial color lithographs of player photographs set against vibrant backgrounds, framed by a white border. The player's last name, position, home city, and league are printed at the bottom. On the back, a brief description of the set and the manufacturer's details are provided. Although the back of the cards state, "This card is one of a set of 50 Base Ball Players," the Dockman set only includes 40 cards.
