Description: Offering an ORIGINAL 1902 WEDGWOOD BLUE PLATE commemorating INDEPENDENCE HALL in PHILADELPHIA. The back reads "REAR VIEW OF INDEPENDENCE HALL 1743 - PHILADELPHIA - 1902." The plate depicts INDEPENDENCE HALL from the WALNUT STREET SIDE (SOUTH), and shows INDEPENDENCE SQUARE, the site of the first public reading of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE in 1776. Note that the STATUE OF JOHN BARRY is not visible on the plate because that statue was not placed in this space until 1907. The RIM of the PLATE is smooth, with a BEADED CHAIN DECORATION and a FLORAL BORDER. It measures approximately 9.3" in diameter, and weighs approximately 18 ounces. The back is marked "WEDGWOOD ETRURIA, ENGLAND; JONES MCDUFFEE & STRATTON, BOSTON," and impressed "WEDGWOOD" and other marks. "JONES, MCDUFFEE & STRATTON of BOSTON" was the importer.
