Description: Fantastic 18thC Nautical Brass Engraved Tobacco Box (Royal Navy or East India Co) d.1760 This amazing 18thC artefact is in fine fettle, it’s engraved by its maker “S. Hill fecit 1760” (fecit translates to “he/she made it”) to the interior lid, and for the recipient “Samuel Ward”, to the main exterior lid along with two period sea monsters. It has the odd sign of use or patina commensurate with its age and measures 12cm x 7cm, the twin hinges work as they should and it comes with a handful of early 19thC friction matches c.1830. After research I discovered several “Samuel Ward’s” with naval affiliation, including a couple of Royal Navy Admirals and East India Co Captains, take your pick…….
