Coin Specifics: Diameter: 39mm Composition: .9027 silver, .0973 copper Actual Silver Weight: 0.7857 oz More Information: On May 27, 1897, a new coinage of the One Peso was authorized to begin in 1898 as a permanent replacement of the historic 8 Reales coin. The obverse eagle was redesigned to show the more majestic coat of arms typical of 1898, as well as a bolder cap and rays design on the reverse. (see Buttrey and Hubbard, 1971, A Guidebook of Mexican Coins). This coin type was minted from 1898 to 1909, and at mints in Mexico City (Mo), Zacatecas (Zs), Culiacan (Cn), and Guanajuato (Go).
