Ilyin, Alexey Afinogenovich - lieutenant general, cartographer (1832-1889). In 1856, after graduating from the Academy of the General Staff, he was at the military topographic depot, then at the quartermaster general of the main headquarters. Ilyin's name is associated with the emergence and development of the first privately-owned cartographic establishment in Russia. He began his activity with the discovery in 1859 in St. Petersburg. together with Colonel Poltoratsky lithography, which has now grown into the famous Ilyin cartographic institution. The company has published a lot of geographical and statistical maps, arts. albums, wall maps of all parts of the world and European countries for educational institutions, as well as a detailed atlas of the Russian Empire, etc. At many international exhibitions, Ilyin’s maps were awarded along with the works of Justus Perthes’s Gothic company. -------------------------------------------------- А. В 1856 г. окончив Академию генерального штаба, состоял при военно-топографическом депо, затем при ген.-квартирмейстере главного штаба. Имя Ильина связано с возникновением и развитием первого в России частного картографического заведения. Начал свою деятельность открытием в 1859 г. в СПб. вместе с полковником Полторацким литографии, выросшей ныне в известное "картографическое заведение Ильина". Фирма издала массу географических и статистических карт, художеств. альбомов, стенных карт всех частей света и государств Европы для учебных заведений, также подробный атлас Российской империи и пр. На многих международных выставках карты фирмы Ильина были награждаемы наряду с работами готской фирмы Юстуса Пертеса.
