Description: A very handsome volume, complete in itself, from a late nineteenth century edition of the works of Charles Dickens, this volume undated but believed circa 1895. With forty b/w illustrations by 'Phiz'. Bound in tan half-calf and marbled paper-covered boards, spine with five raised bands, gilt lettering on red morocco labels, gilt tooling and further lettering to compartments. All edges marbled. Binding remains sound, firm, and clean with only a little rubbing to extremities. Marbled endpapers, clean and bright, split at front hinge, though the latter holding firm. Text-block also sound with pages and illustrations remarkably clean and tidy throughout. Small adhesion mark to reverse of one plate with corresponding small loss to a few letters in opposing text (p.203). Please view images carefully to confirm condition.
