Description: This listing is for an Extremely Rare 1893 World's Columbian Exposition UNUSED KOEHLER POSTCARD #2 Administration Building, featuring a portrait of Columbus and his ship the Santa Maria. This uncoated card was prepared by Girsch and Roehster, New York and distributed by Joseph Koehler, New York. Hence the designation as 'Koehler' Cards. All twelve of the cards in this series were UNOFFICIAL and were not accepted by the Exposition due to their being uncoated with the white ink, which made them appear flat in color. Though they received a patent for these cards, the Expo Committee declined accepting them for the more colorful Goldsmith cards. Like the official postcards for this Fair, they were printed on the backs of the 1891 1¢ Grant postcard. However very few sets were produced numbering 20,000 or less. The PC's are printed in black ink on a #UX10 full size card, 155mm x 95mm. The artist was J. Van Vleuten and the printing was accomplished with stone lithography.
