The proof strikes were double struck so the design is very sharp to show every detail. The proof dies were polished and the design was chemically etched so the design has a frosted appearance against a very smooth mirror-like background. Of the remaining 39.920 non-proof business strikes, 15809 were melted, 23 were sent to the Assay Commission, 24,195 Isabella quarters were distributed to the public (including the 103 proof coins).
