According to the copyright page, “this address was delivered in Glasgow, at the City Hall, to the Members of the Boys’ Brigade, some fourteen hundred boys being present. It is now published in convenient form for the boys of America.”Provenance: gift inscription on the first front facing endpaper reads: “Giles Buckner Palmer, from his off (?) cousin, John K. White – July 1891.” The Rev. Giles Buckner Palmer (1879-1946) was rector and pastor of St. Stephen’s Church in Richmond, Virginia between 1921 and 1946. Palmer had a maternal cousin named John Kearns White, who was 20 years his senior. Rev. Palmer would have been about 11 years old when he received this book as a gift.Condition: The binding is intact, but beginning to split along spine. Cover has some fading, discoloration, and wear. The interior is age-toned. Pages 10 and 11 have discoloration from insertion of some type of paper.
