Description: This scarce 1890s token is from the Thurber, Whyland Company in New York City, and the token advertised the Taps brand of cigars. [NOTE: This company organized with this name in 1893 and declared bankruptcy in 1901, dating the token to the 1890s.] The obverse has an image of a military bugler, the name of the company, and the words TAPS THE BEST 5¢ CIGAR IN THE WORLD. The reverse has the words FIVE OF THESE SOUVENIRS MAY BE EXCHANGED FOR A TAPS CIGAR. The composition, according to references, is brass, and the diameter is approximately 22 mm (7/8"). [9242] This token is in very fine condition, with even wear, with brown toning, and it remains bright.
