Description: This fantastic card is an anonymous issue but is believed to have been issued by the Duke Tobacco Co. as an insert premium in their brands of Tobacco and Cigarettes starting in 1880 and running through to 1888. This cards is from a fairly scarce series of Photographic Cards entitled , “Scenes and Buildings” Designated as N155 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue . The front of the card features an actual photographic image (similar to a cabinet or CDV style) of The WORLD BUILDING NEW YORK as it appeared back in the late 1880’s. The back of the card is blank as it was issued. Unlike the other N155 this one does not have any brand advertsing and measure slightly smaller that the branded version of the N155’s This card measures 2 3/16 inches by just under 4 inches approximately. It has some corner wear/ damage as well as some creases. I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself (it is a little “ bowed” as most of these early photographic cards are) . I have always found these Anonymous variants to be much harder to find that the branded versions. This would make a fantastic gift for anyone interested in early American history or early America Photographic images. Don't miss out on this over 130 year old piece (a true American antique). They don't come up on e-bay too often.
