1884 HOLY BIBLE BACKER / MEYER Family History from 1848 * Ornate Leather

Description: Attention Collectors!!! 1884 Berlin, Germany Holy Bible Here’s an antique Holy Bible that would be a tremendous addition to a collection! You are bidding on an antique old Holy Bible. It is from 1884. It is a beautiful Bible from Berlin, Germany. The Bible is in German. This Bible is over 130 years old!!! The Bible is loaded with family history for the Backer (umlaut over the letter a) / Meyer family. The family history goes back to 1848. There are many more pages of family history that I did not show pictures of. I can't read old German, but the title page is very interesting; it seems to be signed by a bunch of people. The Bible features full leather binding with gorgeous gilt illustrations and gilt lettering on spine and covers. There is even gilt design on inside perimeter of covers. The covers are firmly attached with no cracking or splitting of the hinges. There is some wear and loss to the leather at top and bottom of spine. The binding shows some wear but remains in overall very good condition. It is a good size Bible measuring 12" high and 8 3/4" wide. The pages are clean and tightly bound. The gorgeous binding was done by W. Laudahn, Berlin, as can be seen in small gold lettering at bottom right corner of cover. It would be terrific if this Bible could find its way back to the Backer or Meyer families! For your interest, this book came out of an auction of an estate sale which was held in Southeast Pennsylvania, not very far from the Amish area of Lancaster County. Tremendous gift idea!
