1880's EAPG Antique Pointed Hobnail Decanter with Stopper 11" H 4.5" W

Description: 1880's EAPG Antique Pointed Hobnail Decanter with Stopper 11" H 4.5" W by Finley or Doyle Glass Companies. EarlyAmerican Pattern Glass (EAPG for short) is clear or coloured pressed glass madefrom around 1850 until about 1914 in matched sets. Machines for pressing glasswere invented in the 1820's, but it was not until the 1860's that they wereimproved enough to mass produce matched table services. Sets of glassware allin the same pattern became very popular, and these sets often included sugarbowl, creamer, butter dish, goblets, tumblers, pitcher, fruit bowl, berrydishes, and sometimes relish dishes, salt and pepper shakers, cakestands, breadplates, compotes, celery vases, and other household items. Therewere thousands of patterns of EAPG, some produced in extensive sets and somewith only a few pieces. Early writers on EAPG Glass gave names to many of thesepatterns, and some confusion was caused when they sometimes gave differentnames to the same pattern. Hundreds of different manufacturers made EAPG, amongst the earlier ones beingthe Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, Cape Cod Glass Company, and the NewEngland Glass Company. Amongst the best known and some of the most prolificwere Bryce Brothers, McKee & Brothers, US Glass Company, Fostoria, HobbsBruckunier & Company, Cambridge Glass, A. H. Heisey, and Imperial GlassCompany. There were many many more. Many different companiesproduced EAPG, and some patterns were produced by more than one company, due tomergers, trading of molds, and copying. EAPGhas been very popular with collectors for many years. This decanter is the Pointed Hobnail pattern made by Finley or Doyle Glass companies.
