Description: Up for sale is a rare copy of a 1871 German Templer Colony New Testament from the Refraim Valley. The tome belonged to a Kate Emurtenay (Emortenay). It was printed in 1871 and was inscribed and given to her in 1875. (see photos) The pages are not brittle, torn or folded ( I don't think she used it). No writing or marks except for the inscription. The spine has lost its leather but is solid and connected to pages very well. The covers are leather with wood plaques that are inscribed with her name on the front and Mt. of Olives on the back. The German Templer colonies in Palestine were the settlements established in Ottoman Palestine and Mandatory Palestine by the German Pietist Templer movement in the late 19th and early 20th century. During and shortly after World War II, these colonies were depopulated, and its German residents deported to Australia. At its height, the Templer community in Palestine numbered 2,000.
