The central Vignette is based on a Revolutionary War painting by John Blake White titled Sergeants Jasper and Newton Rescuing American Prisoners from the British. The portrait on the lower left is General Daniel Morgan and on the right is General Andrew Pickens. This example has an interesting Dabney, Morgan & Co. stamp on the back & hammer-cut cancellations, as is often seen. An always popular note due to its colorful presentation and Revolutionary War era themed vignette and portraits. Printed by the ABNCo, this note was issued just weeks after the opening shots of the Civil War were fired across town in Charleston Harbor. The note is hammer cancelled and bears a post-war rubberstamp indicating that this note was part of the lengthy litigation revolving around whether the bank could declare bankruptcy.
