Description: Antique portrait titled 'Charles Marquis Cornwallis' Charles Cornwallis, 1st Marquis Cornwallis -British Army Officer and influential colonial governor, Viscount Brome 1753-1762, and The Earl Cornwallis 1762-1792. In the United States and the United Kingdom, he is best known as one of the leading British general officers in the American War of Independence. Cornwallis [1738-1805] is shown three quarter length in uniform wearing the Order of the Garter as Governor General in an attractive frame with his coat of arms at the top. This print came from Lodge’s Portaits published by John Tallis &co, circa 1850, and is after the painting by Copley. The overall size of the sheet is 11 x 7 ins and the portrait within the border 4 x 5 ins. Very Good Condition. Some minor corner ware, old age toning and very light soiling.
