Originally published by Chapman & Hall in nineteen issues over twenty months in 1836-37. This edition is also published by Chapman and Hall and printed by Bradbury and Evans just 10 years after the first printing, and is complete in forty-seven chapters with the Frontis illustration by C.L. Leslie and six woodcut illustrations by Phiz. Condition: 8vo. 479 pages - Leather spine and corner tips with gilt stamped print and decoration over paper boards with matching marbled endpapers and page edges. Considerable shelf wear with chipping to the spine tips, leather corners bumped and rubbed. Rubbing to the paper boards and wear to the leather along the hinges. The interior shows just a bit of foxing and toning. A previous owner has written a detailed list of the Phiz woodcut illustrations on the blank page opposite the half-title page. Overall, a very good early copy of Dickens celebrated first book.
