It appears that there may have been corner pieces in leather that were removed. Five band spines each have bright gilt lettering and two paper labels affixed by previous owner, which may have been The Reynolds Library. Each front pastedown ep has a large library label, and the rears have the remains of pockets. Edges are rubbed, and vol II has a circular stain from a sticker on the front. Leather joints are supple. Hinges are intact and bindings are tight, without separations. Pages are mildly toned but generally clean. Exceptions being a largish but faint dampstain in vol I from title page through preface, diminishing, and an occasional spot. Includes a 25 page Sketch of the Life of Horace Walpole... as well as copious notes and a large index. Included are 360 letters.
