Decimus Junius Juvenalis, or Juvenal, was a Roman poet active in the late first and early second century CE. Juvenal is credited with sixteen known poems divided between five books; all are in the Roman genre of satire, which comprised a wide-ranging discussion of society and social morals in dactylic hexameter. Francis Hodgson (1781-1852) was a reforming Provost of Eton, educator, critic, writer of verse, and friend of Byron. In 1806, he was appointed assistant master at Eton, a post he resigned in a year to become a resident tutor of King's College, Cambridge. There, he met and befriended Lord Byron, who was an undergraduate at Trinity College. Their friendship is recorded in the many letters between them and have been published in biographies of Byron. This is the sole edition of Hodgson's translation. FORN-MSB-0823-0727-HK540
