Also effective in armed combat, both in the Phillipines and adopted into U.S. army as the bolo knife. Produced from 1897 to 1918 they remained in service both as a tool for clearing brush and for combat until WW II. The bolo is also used in Filipino martial arts or Arnis as part of training. As a fighting weapon it can be used for slashing. slicing and hacking. Its relatively small size allows for great speed while the wide blade end gives extra cutting power.
