A very scarce work. Incomplete in one volume, being Volume I only of two. An extensive work on botany, noting over four-hundred and thirty types of plants, giving both their Latin and English names. Written by Lady Charlotte Murray, a Scottish botanist. She is best known for this work. She also, in 1793, discovered a double variety of Geranium Pratense Bookplate to the front pastedown, 'Nec Timide Nec Temere, Adversis Major Par Secundis. Sir William Forbes Bart. of Pitsligo'. Forbes was a Scottish banker, philanthropist, and writer. He was a good friend of the poet James Beattie. He was the Baron ot Pitsligo Castle, a ruined fifteenth century keep. CONDITION In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbing to the spine. Light marks to the boards, with a small amount of loss to the rear board. Some minor surface cracks to the spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. Bookplate to the front pastedown, which as offset to the recto to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only the very odd light mark.
